Clear Channel obtained ownership of the theater in 2002 with help from then-mayor Thomas Menino. The company then renovated and modernized the venue while restoring the décor. The Boston Opera House reopened in July 2004 with the Broadway musical version of The Lion King. The venue also has three tenants, namely the Boston Ballet, Broadway Across America in Boston and the Boston Uprising Overwatch esports team.
