Brooklyn Academy of Music

New York City is a busy, noisy place, but at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, beautiful noise is made. Before parking at the The Brooklyn Academy of Music, it is important to note that there are three facilities - the Peter Jay Sharp Building on Lafayette Avenue, the Harvey Building on Fulton and the Fisher Building on Ashland. Being in New York City, Brooklyn Academy of Music parking will likely be hard to come by unless you book it in advance. As a performing arts center with a penaché for the avant garde, the Academy of Music has had an eclectic selection of guests over time. Past visitors include Robert Redford, Paul Simon, Jimmy Kimmel, Cate Blanchett, Mark Twain, Booker T. Washington and President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
The Academy of Music was founded in 1861, and moved to the Peter Jay Sharp building in 1908, after its first location on Montague Street burned down in 1903. The Academy of Music’s three venues each have a different atmosphere, along with different seating arrangements; the PJS Building can seat 2,109 people, the Fulton location can keep 874 audience members comfortably, while the Ashland location can seat 250. This limited amount of seating makes it even more difficult if you show up late, so it is imperative to book an Academy of Music parking spot prior to the show. If you book your Brooklyn Academy of Music parking spot with ParkWhiz in advance, you can listen to the orchestra tune their instruments while other theater-goers listen to the din of the Long Island Railroad as they walk to the show.
The PJS Building houses Rose Cinemas, which is designed to allow the people of Brooklyn to see artistic films without commuting to Manhattan. Along with Rose Cinemas, the building is also home to the Lepercq Space, a former ballroom that functions as a space for both events and the Academy of Music Café, where you can listen to music and get a nice meal. Hillman Attic Studio also resides at the Peter Jay Sharp Building, which is used for rehearsals. Transitioning to Fulton Street, it boasts the Harvey Theater, paying homage for Harvey Lichtenstein, the former executive director of Academy of Music who made the institution into what it is today. Last but not least, the Ashland location holds the Academy of Music Fishman Space (a theater) as well as the Fisher Hillman Studio, which acts as both a performance and rehearsal space. If you want to see some of the best theatrical and musical performances in Kings County, the Brooklyn Academy of Music is a great choice. Finding parking for the Brooklyn Academy of Music at either of its three locations could be tricky, so the smartest stage direction would be to book a Brooklyn Academy of Music parking space ahead of time with ParkWhiz.
