More about Dolby Theatre
Hollywood is packed with attractions for guests, from the famous Hollywood sign to the homes of famous actors, but the real star power is centered on Dolby Theatre. This famous theater has been the host of the annual Academy Awards since 2002 in addition to regularly hosting musicals and concerts, making it hard to find a Dolby Theatre parking spot if you don’t book ahead of time with ParkWhiz. Located in the Hollywood & Highland mall, construction on the venue began in 1997, and it opened to the public in November 2001. The naming rights were originally held by the Eastman Kodak camera company, such that it was named the Kodak Theatre from when it opened until 2012, when the naming rights lapsed. Following a short period that same year where it was dubbed the Hollywood and Highland Center, the naming rights were purchased by Dolby Laboratories in May 2012 for a twenty year duration. The new sponsor updated the theater’s audio system with its namesake Dolby Atmos surround system, in addition to upgrading its projection system. The venue features a five-level lobby with a large spiral staircase, with some lobby elements inspired by the likes of Busby Berkeley, Michelangelo and the Art Deco era. The venue has a main stage that is one of the largest in the country at 120 feet wide by 75 feet deep, and it has a seating capacity of 3,400. If hosting Hollywood’s most famous annual award show, concerts and musicals wasn’t enough, Dolby Theatre is located in a busy shopping mall. With so much activity, it can be difficult to find Dolby Theatre parking unless you book ahead of time with ParkWhiz.
