North Avenue Beach
There are many beaches lining Lake Michigan, but of the multitudes of sandy coastlines, the North Avenue Beach in Chicago takes the cake for both the number of visitors and amenities. Since it was and added to the coastline in 1940 using landfill, the North Avenue Beach has grown into the most popular beach in the city. Located in the Lincoln Park neighborhood, the beach dramatically juts off the coast along Lake Shore Drive, ending with a small circular swirl bounded by a seawall. North Avenue Beach features volleyball courts, free wi-fi, multiple restaurants, sports shops, kayaks and even a unique beach house, shaped like an old-fashioned cruise ship! Due to its popularity, it can be difficult to find a place to park at the beach, particularly on weekends and holidays. While beachgoers might’ve been out of luck in 1940, folks planning on enjoying a day at the lake can book North Avenue Beach parking ahead of time with ParkWhiz to beat the heat and the crowd!
