The National Theatre

Over time, Washington, D.C., has been the host of many theatres, concert halls and other cultural institutions, but only The National Theatre has successfully stood the test of time while still remaining popular today. With many would-be Broadway shows getting their try-outs at the theatre, it’s important to book The National Theatre parking ahead of time with ParkWhiz and avoid the crowd. The venue is situated a few blocks southeast of the White House on Pennsylvania Avenue NW, at the same site where it first opened in December 1835. Founded by William Wilson Corcoran, the theatre opened with the show “Man of the World”. Throughout the nineteenth century, the venue experienced multiple fires but always bounced back and rebuilt on the same location. The venue’s name changed several times during this period, going under the monikers of “The New National Theatre” and “Grover’s National Theatre” among others. The current structure of the theatre opened in 1922, and it was renovated in 1982 to create the venue as it is today. The National Theatre was first managed by the Nederlander Organization in 1972 until 1980, when it passed to the Shubert Organization. Chicago’s Jam Theatricals operated the venue from 2012, until it merged with the Nederlander Organization, the current management, in 2019. In addition to Broadway musicals, the venue also hosts ballet, lectures, opera, concerts and seminars. With a wide variety of Broadway shows to see and concerts to attend, the theatre is a popular attraction, so it makes sense to book The National Theatre parking in advance with ParkWhiz.
